GAUC hosts 2024 'Climate x' High-Level Event at COP29

Young Climate Heroes Unite at GAUC’s ‘Climate x’ Event at COP29

Imagine a room filled with young people from all over the world, all excited to save our planet! 🌍✨ That’s exactly what happened on November 11 at the COP29 climate conference.

The Global Alliance of Universities on Climate (GAUC) hosted their 2024 ‘Climate x’ High-Level Event in the China Pavilion’s Blue Zone. This big event was all about how young leaders are taking action to help the Earth reach carbon neutrality. That means balancing out the amount of carbon dioxide we release into the air with the amount we take away.

Important global leaders were there to cheer them on! Liu Zhenmin, China’s special envoy for climate change, told the young people, “I hope young faces here will continue to practice low-carbon actions, demonstrate leadership, and inspire more peers to join this great cause.” 🇨🇳💚

Rachel Kyte from the UK praised how GAUC brings students together from all over the globe. Felipe Paullier, who works with the United Nations, reminded everyone how important it is to link climate action with big goals like the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Catherine McKenna from Canada said we need to work together quickly to solve climate challenges. 🕊️🌱

After the speeches, students received special certificates for completing the ‘Climate x’ Youth Leadership Training Program and becoming GAUC Youth Ambassadors. 🎓🌟 They then had exciting discussions about ‘Climate x Global Governance’ and ‘Climate x Youth Action’ with climate experts and other students.

This year, nearly 880 students from 79 countries joined the ‘Climate x’ Leadership Training Program! They inspired over 100 youth-led activities around the world. How cool is that? GAUC also launched the ‘Climate Q’ Campaign at COP29, which is a fun quiz to get everyone involved in learning about climate change.

The future is bright with these young climate heroes leading the way! Will you join them in making a difference? 🌎❤️
