Guess what? 🌋 One of the world’s most active volcanoes, Kilauea in Hawaii, is erupting again!
The Kilauea volcano, located on the Big Island of Hawaii, started spewing lava fountains that are shooting up to 1,000 feet (300 meters) high! That’s as tall as a 100-story building! 🏢
But don’t worry! The experts at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory are keeping a close eye on the volcano. They say the lava flows are staying inside the volcano’s crater, so nearby communities are safe.
Kilauea is a shield volcano, which means it’s shaped like a warrior’s shield lying on the ground. It erupts gently compared to other volcanoes, but it’s still an amazing sight to see!
Lava is molten rock that comes out of a volcano during an eruption. When it cools down, it forms new land. That’s how the Hawaiian Islands were formed over millions of years!
