Facing Tariff Troubles: How a Spanish Company is Coping 🚗🔧

Have you ever wondered how the parts inside a car are made and where they come from? Meet Técnica del Decoletaje, a company in Madrid, Spain, that makes tiny machine parts used in cars. They’ve been doing this for 66 years! 🏭

For a long time, many of their car parts have been sold to companies in the United States. But recently, things have gotten tricky. The U.S. has put tariffs (extra taxes) on products coming from Europe, including Spain. This means it’s more expensive for U.S. companies to buy parts from Técnica del Decoletaje.

Mario Lobato, the managing director of the company, says that about 35% of their products are now affected by these tariffs. That’s a big chunk! 😟

“These tariffs are making the whole car industry more complicated,” says Mario. “Our parts are inside cars that go to the U.S., so it affects us a lot.”

Even workers like Rafael Rosa are feeling the impact. “The tariffs haven’t brought anything good,” he says. “Materials to make our parts are more expensive now, and companies big and small are struggling.”

But despite the challenges, Técnica del Decoletaje is working hard to adapt. They’re looking for new markets and finding ways to keep making the best parts they can. 💪

What are Tariffs?

Tariffs are like extra taxes that countries put on products they buy from other countries. This can make those products more expensive. Governments use tariffs for different reasons, but they can sometimes make things tough for businesses that sell products overseas.
