Hey there! Have you ever heard of Italian wine? It’s a special drink that grown-ups enjoy, made from grapes grown in the sunny vineyards of Italy. ๐๐ฎ๐น
Recently, the U.S. President, Donald Trump, announced a new 20% tax, called a tariff (that’s like an extra fee), on things coming from the European Union (EU), which is a group of countries in Europe, including Italy.
This means that when Italian wine is sold in the United States, it will cost more money. That’s making Italian winemakers worried! The U.S. is one of their biggest customers, and if their wine becomes more expensive, people might not buy as much.
Lamberto Frescobaldi, who helps lead the Italian wine industry, says that Italy could lose about 323 million euros each year because of this new tax. That’s a lot of money! ๐ฐ
There’s a winery called Ca’ Montebello in northern Italy. They sell over 90% of their wine to the U.S.! Alberto Scarani, whose family owns the winery, is concerned that the higher prices will make it hard to sell their wine. He said that people might not want to pay more for less expensive wines.
Everyone hopes that the U.S. and the EU can find a way to solve this problem so that people can continue to enjoy Italian wine without paying extra.
What do you think? How would you feel if your favorite snack became more expensive because of new rules? ๐๐ซ
