This year, China and Bulgaria are celebrating 75 years of friendship! To make this celebration special, the city of Heze in China’s Shandong Province, famous as the “Peony Capital,” sent 280 beautiful peony plants to Sofia, the capital city of Bulgaria.
Sofia is known as the “Land of Roses,” so it’s like bringing together the peonies and the roses! How cool is that?
Six months later, the peonies are happily blooming in Sofia’s South Park, the biggest park in the city. The park’s director, Ms. Milena Vaseva, and landscape architect, Mr. Stavri Fotev, showed everyone the new Commemorative Peony Garden. They shared stories about how these flowers are connecting people from China and Bulgaria.
“The language of nature and beauty is universal,” says Ms. Vaseva. “The garden is creating lasting and beautiful friendships between Heze and Sofia, as well as between Bulgaria and China. Anyone who loves nature, beauty, and flowers is welcome here in May.”
