🔥 South Korea’s Wildfires: Homes Lost and Heroes Helping
Since March 21, 2025, the biggest wildfires in South Korea’s history have been burning. 🔥
These fires have sadly taken the lives of 30 people and injured 45 more. Over 3,500 houses have been destroyed, and even 30 special places called national heritage sites have been damaged.
The fires have spread over 48,000 hectares, which is like 60,000 soccer fields! 😮 According to the Republic of Korea’s Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the fires are still a big problem.
Our reporters went to North Gyeongsang Province, one of the hardest-hit areas. They talked to people who lost their homes and to the brave rescuers helping out.
Families Losing Their Homes
Mr. Jo Soo-gap, who lives in Yeongdeok County, told us that his house and everything inside it were destroyed by the fire. He said, “I hope the government can help us rebuild our homes.”
Rescuers Hard at Work
We also spoke with Mr. Kim Woo-seok, the chairman of the Pohang Medical Association. He explained that many people are not only hurt physically but are also feeling very sad and stressed because of the fires. This can cause problems called chronic diseases and psychological trauma, which means long-lasting sickness and feeling scared or worried.
Hope for the Future
Even though things are really tough right now, people are coming together to help each other. Rescuers are working hard to put out the fires and keep everyone safe. Communities are supporting one another, and there is hope that things will get better soon. 💪
Let’s keep thinking about the people affected by the wildfires and hope they can rebuild their homes and lives quickly.
