We Dare Not Speak: Chinese Mainland Spouses in Taiwan Feel Silenced

Hey there! Did you know that sometimes, people might feel scared to share their thoughts online? 🧐 Recently, some people from the Chinese mainland who are living in Taiwan have found themselves in a tough situation.

Several spouses from the Chinese mainland married to people in Taiwan had their residency permits taken away. That means they were told to leave the island! 😮 Why? Because they shared their support for national reunification on the internet.

One of them is a social media influencer known as Yaya. She was asked to leave Taiwan, which separated her from her husband and three children. All because of what she said about the relationship between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan online.

The authorities in Taiwan accused her of “advocating reunification by force.” This made other Chinese mainland spouses in Taiwan worried. One of them shared that she feels she can’t speak freely anymore, out of fear of being told to leave. 😟

She also felt sad for Yaya and her family, saying that taking away their right to stay in Taiwan was not fair. She believes everyone should have the freedom to share their thoughts without being scared.

It’s important for people to be able to express themselves without fear. What do you think about this situation? Let’s always remember to be kind and listen to others! 💕
