My Spring Festival Story: Mexican student's memory of Chinese New Year video poster

A Mexican Student’s Joyful Chinese New Year Adventure!

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to celebrate the Chinese New Year in China? 🇨🇳✨ Meet Moraima Ordoñez, a student from Mexico studying at Peking University. She had an unforgettable experience celebrating the Chinese New Year with her friend’s family in Beijing!

Joining in the Festivities

When Moraima was invited to her friend’s home, she jumped at the chance to dive into the rich traditions of the holiday. One of the first things she did was write the character Fu (福), which means good fortune. 🖌️ She learned how to brush the strokes carefully, and then they hung it upside down on the door. Do you know why? Because the word for “upside down” sounds like “arrive” in Chinese, so it means good luck is coming! 🍀

A Delicious Feast

Next came the New Year’s Eve dinner, and it was a feast! 🍲🥟 Moraima tried dumplings, spring rolls, and sticky rice cakes. Everything was so tasty, and each food had a special meaning. For example, dumplings resemble ancient Chinese money, symbolizing wealth. How cool is that?

Sharing Cultures

Moraima also shared her own Mexican traditions. She told her friends about how in Mexico, they celebrate the New Year with fireworks and by eating 12 grapes at midnight, one for each wish for the year. 🎆🍇 They were fascinated by the similarities and differences between the two cultures.

A Celebration to Remember

Celebrating the Chinese New Year in China was an amazing experience for Moraima. She felt the joy of the festival and the warmth of her friend’s family. It showed her how wonderful it is to learn about different cultures and make new friends along the way. 🌟

Would you like to celebrate a festival in another country? It’s a fantastic way to discover new traditions and have lots of fun! 🎉
