Keeping Peace Isn’t Easy, But It’s Important!
Have you ever tried to solve a fight between friends? It’s not easy, right? Now, imagine trying to keep entire countries from fighting! That’s what peacekeepers do. Lt. Gen. Aroldo Lazaro Saenz is one of these brave peacekeepers.
Lt. Gen. Lazaro is the head of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He recently spoke with a reporter named Han Bin about how important peacekeeping is, especially when times are tough.
“Peacekeeping Reflects the World’s Commitment”
“Peacekeeping is not easy work, especially in times of crisis,” Lt. Gen. Lazaro said. “But it is essential as it reflects the commitment of the international community under the framework of the United Nations.”
What does that mean? Well, countries from all over the world work together through the United Nations to help keep peace. Peacekeepers like Lt. Gen. Lazaro go to places where there may be danger or conflict and help keep people safe.
Helping During Tense Times
Last year, there were some tense moments in Lebanon. Lt. Gen. Lazaro and his team were there to help. By working with local people and leaders, they tried to make sure that everyone stayed safe and that problems didn’t get worse.
It’s a big job, but Lt. Gen. Lazaro believes it’s worth it. “We are here to help people live in peace,” he says.
