Hey there! Have you ever thought about where the water in rivers comes from? 🌊 Let’s journey together to the top of the world to find out!
High up on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (also known as the Tibetan Plateau), there’s a massive river called the Yangtze River. It’s one of the longest rivers in the world! But do you know where it begins? It all starts with a glacier called the Jianggendiru Glacier, which is about 20 kilometers long. That’s like stacking more than 1,800 school buses end to end! 🚍🚍🚍
What’s a glacier?
A glacier is a huge, slow-moving river of ice. It’s made from lots and lots of snow that gets pressed together over many years. Glaciers store about 69% of the world’s fresh water! That’s a lot of drinking water, right?
Why do glaciers matter?
Glaciers are like giant water towers. During warmer months, they melt a little and release water into rivers. This helps plants grow, animals drink, and people live. Many big rivers around the world start from glaciers.
But here’s the problem: Glaciers are melting faster than before because of climate change. This means less water for rivers, and that’s not good news for anyone. 🥺
What can we do?
We can help by saving energy, planting trees, and spreading the word about protecting our planet. Every small action counts! 🌳✨
On this World Water Day, let’s appreciate the amazing glaciers and do our part to protect them. After all, they’re the guardians of our water! 💧🧊
