But what are pigeon whistles? 🤔 Well, in Beijing, people have a tradition of attaching tiny whistles to pigeons. When the pigeons fly, the whistles create beautiful melodies in the sky! It’s like the pigeons are playing music as they soar. How cool is that?
However, this ancient practice is disappearing. Fewer people are keeping pigeons with whistles, and the sounds are fading away. That’s why Colin teamed up with Mr. Zhang Baotong, an expert craftsman who makes these special whistles by hand.
Together, they are working hard to record and preserve the sound of pigeon whistles. They want future generations to hear and enjoy this wonderful part of Beijing’s culture.
