From Herder to Harvester: Xinjiang’s Salmon Farming Success 🐟

Did you know that you don’t need to live by the sea to farm salmon? 🐟 In Xinjiang, a region deep in the heart of the Eurasian continent, thousands of kilometers from the ocean, a surprising new industry is making waves—salmon fishing!

How is this possible? It all starts at the Jilintai Reservoir, located northwest of Nilka County. Here, melting snow from the towering Tianshan Mountains flows into the reservoir. This chilly, fresh water creates the perfect environment for salmon and other cold-water fish.

In 2021, an organic agriculture company saw this opportunity and introduced salmon farming to the area. This not only brought fresh, tasty salmon to the table but also boosted the local economy and created new jobs! 🎉

One person who embraced this change is Ayhen Baghdaulet. Ayhen used to be a herder, taking care of animals on the vast grasslands. But when salmon farming came to his hometown, he jumped at the chance to try something new. 🌟

“I had never thought about fishing before,” Ayhen says with a smile. “Now, I’ve learned how to farm and harvest salmon. It’s exciting to try something different, and my income has increased too!” 💰

Thanks to salmon farming, Ayhen and many others have found new opportunities. They’re learning new skills, earning more money, and bringing delicious salmon to people far and wide. It’s amazing how one idea can change so many lives! 😊

So next time you enjoy some salmon, remember that it might have come from the snowy mountains of Xinjiang—not the sea! 🏞️🐟
