A Tasty Friendship: How Thai Food Spiced Up Kunming

Imagine moving to a new country and bringing a little piece of home with you. That’s exactly what Nannaphat did 26 years ago! She traveled from Chiang Mai, Thailand all the way to Kunming, a city in the Chinese mainland. And guess what she brought with her? A bag of lemongrass! ๐ŸŒฟ

Back then, Thai food was almost unknown in Kunming. People there hadn’t tried the delicious spicy and sour flavors that are so popular in Thailand. But thanks to Nannaphat, that all changed!

She started cooking Thai dishes for her new friends. They loved it so much that she decided to open a Thai restaurant. Now, she runs six Thai restaurants in Kunming! ๐Ÿฒ๐Ÿ›

Because of her, ingredients like lemongrass and Thai spices are now easy to find in local markets. Thai food has become super popular among the people of Kunming.

This year, it’s the 50th anniversary of friendly relations between Thailand and China. To celebrate, Nannaphat organized a special event called the “Friendship Long-table Banquet“. She invited her colleagues and friends to enjoy delicious food and celebrate the friendship between the two countries. ๐ŸŽ‰

“I wanted to do something special to mark this occasion,” she said. “Food brings people together, and I hope my cooking can help strengthen our friendship.”

Thanks to people like Nannaphat, the connections between countries grow stronger every day. Who knew that a bag of lemongrass could start such a tasty adventure? ๐ŸŒโค๏ธ
