Clam-digging craze draws tourists to coastal Rizhao

Clam-Digging Adventure: How Rizhao’s Beaches are Turning into Treasure Hunts! 🐚

Imagine walking along a sunny beach, the salty sea breeze in your hair, and the sand beneath your feet turning into a real-life treasure map! That’s what’s happening right now in Haiyuan Village, Taoluo Town, in Rizhao, east China’s Shandong Province.

As the tide goes out, it leaves behind damp sand that’s perfect for digging up clams. Locals and tourists alike are grabbing their buckets and shovels to join in the clam-digging craze. It’s like a giant, beach-wide treasure hunt—fun for everyone!

During the recent Labor Day holiday, a nearby beach at Liujiawan hosted a special event called “Gifts from the Dragon King.” 🐲 Legend says the Dragon King is the sea deity who brings blessings to those who honor him. To celebrate, organizers scattered clams across certain areas so even first-time diggers could feel the excitement of finding their own sea treasures.

But the fun doesn’t stop there! Taoluo Town’s southeastern coastline is home to four villages, including Haiyuan. This area is bustling with marine life and activities. There are over 100 fishing boats, 500 greenhouses where seafood is farmed, and lots of tidal flats where seafood grows. The big Fuxin Fishing Port is a hub of activity, too!

The local government is helping these villages grow by planning out how they can use their resources best. That means more seafood processing, cool storage facilities, neat places to stay called boutique homestays, and hands-on experiences like—you guessed it—clam digging!

This all-around approach is turning traditional fishing villages into awesome tourist spots. Not only are they keeping their fishing heritage alive, but they’re also adding new and exciting activities for visitors. It’s a win-win that brings happiness and prosperity to everyone!

So, next time you’re dreaming of an adventure, why not think about a trip to Rizhao? Grab a shovel, dig in the sand, and see what treasures you might find! 🏖️🐚
