A musical journey from West to East

From Violin to Erhu: Anastasia’s Musical Journey 🎻🎶

Have you ever heard of the erhu? 🎶 It’s a traditional Chinese instrument with just two strings, but it can create beautiful music! Meet Anastasia Fridman, a Dutch exchange student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She’s a classically trained violinist who has fallen in love with the erhu. 🎻❤️

Anastasia started playing the violin when she was very young. She loved how the violin could express so many emotions, from joy to sadness. But when she came to China, she discovered the erhu. Even though it has fewer strings than the violin, she found that it could express just as many feelings!

“At first, I thought the erhu was only used for sad songs,” Anastasia says. “But I learned that it can play happy tunes too!” She believes that both the violin and the erhu can go beyond their traditional styles.

Anastasia hopes to bring the sounds of the violin and the erhu together. 🎵 She wants to create music that blends the voices of East and West. By doing this, she dreams of building a bridge between different cultures.

“Music is a universal language,” she says. “No matter where we’re from, we can all enjoy it together!” 🌍💖
