Hey there! Have you ever wondered what kind of sports people play in different cultures? π€ Well, we have some exciting news from China!
The 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities just wrapped up in sunny Sanya, Hainan Province. π Almost 7,000 athletes from 35 different groups across China came together for nine days of fun and friendly competition!
These games are super special because they focus on traditional sports that are unique to China’s diverse ethnic groups. πΉ They happen every four years and started way back in 1953!
Some of the coolest events included stilt racing (imagine running on super-tall shoes! π¦), single bamboo drifting (balancing on a bamboo log in the water π), board-shoe racing (where teams run together wearing one big shoe π), and Yajia, also known as Tibetan tug-of-war! πͺ
This year, a new sport joined the fun: coconut tree climbing! π₯₯π΄ Athletes raced to the top of tall trees, showing incredible skill and adding a local Hainan twist to the games.
Oh, and in July, they had all the horse riding competitions in Zhaosu, Xinjiang. π That’s in northwest China, and it’s famous for its beautiful grasslands and horses!
These games aren’t just about winning medals. They’re a celebration of China’s amazing cultural heritage and the unique traditions of its many ethnic groups. π It’s all about coming together and having a great time!
Wouldn’t it be cool to try some of these sports someday? Which one would you like to try? Let us know! π€
