Lao Tan’s Amazing Journey: An American Helping Others in China! 🚴‍♂️

Have you ever heard of someone who moves to a new country and makes a big difference? Meet Lao Tan! He was once known as Joshua, an American student studying Chinese at Peking University in Beijing. Now, he is called Lao Tan and lives in the bustling streets, or hutongs, of Beijing.

Lao Tan speaks Mandarin Chinese fluently, and he even has a perfect Beijing accent! But that’s not all. In 2017, he started an incredible project called “Krankin’ thru China”. Inspired by his friends who have spinal injuries and use wheelchairs, he wanted to help them see the world in a new way.

How did he do it? With handcycles! These are special bicycles powered by your hands instead of your feet, perfect for people who can’t use their legs. Lao Tan believed that handcycles could help his friends explore and feel free.

He didn’t stop there. Lao Tan set up places called experience centers where people could try handcycling themselves. And guess what? He even went on an amazing 5,800-kilometer journey across China using a handcycle! That’s like traveling across the entire United States!

Lao Tan’s story shows how one person can make a big difference. By using his love for China and his friendships, he helped connect people and made the world a better place. Who knows? Maybe you can make a difference too! 🌟
