On June 10, the world celebrated the very first International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. That’s a fancy way of saying a day when everyone talks and shares their unique customs, traditions, and ideas!
This special day was created by the United Nations in 2024 after China and over 80 countries suggested it. The goal? To encourage people everywhere to respect each other, learn from one another, and work together for a happier, more peaceful world. 😊
Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a message to a big meeting in Beijing called the Global Civilizations Dialogue Ministerial Meeting. He said it’s super important for all the different cultures to chat and learn from each other so we can solve the world’s problems together.
Over 600 guests from 140 countries and regions came to this meeting! They talked about how we can protect and celebrate the amazing diversity of cultures we have on our planet. 🌟
What Is the Global Civilization Initiative?
Back in 2023, President Xi introduced something called the Global Civilization Initiative (GCI). Before that, he also talked about the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative. These are big ideas to help the world grow, stay safe, and now, learn from different cultures!
At the meeting, Cai Qi, an important leader in China, said that the GCI is rooted in China’s rich history and culture. People all over the world are excited about it because it brings everyone together.
How Is China Sharing Cultures?
China loves sharing and learning! Over the years, they’ve set up events like the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations and the China-ASEAN People-to-People Exchange Year. These events let people from different places meet, share stories, and have fun together! 🎉
For example, there are art festivals, expos, and even something called the Luban Workshop, where people can learn new skills. China also makes it easier for visitors by allowing visa-free travel for people from many countries. ✈️
A recent poll showed that many people believe that by learning from each other, we can make the world a better place. Isn’t that awesome?
