China's brain-computer interface innovation in fast lane

China’s Mind-Control Tech: Playing Games with Just Your Thoughts! 🎮🧠

Did you know that you can play video games just by thinking about them? 🎮🧠 Sounds like science fiction, right? Well, in the Chinese mainland, scientists have made this a reality!

In June, doctors and scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences helped a man who lost all four of his limbs play video games using only his mind! He was able to race cars in a game after just a few weeks of training. How cool is that?

They did this using something called a Brain-Computer Interface, or BCI for short. A BCI is like a bridge between our brains and computers. Every time we think, our brain sends out tiny electrical signals. The BCI picks up these signals, figures out what they mean, and tells the computer what to do.

The BCI device is super small, about the size of a coin. 💰 It’s implanted into the patient’s brain through a tiny surgery. The device has ultra-thin wires that can read the brain’s signals. This means people can control machines just by thinking!

After this amazing surgery, the Chinese mainland opened its first BCI clinical ward at Beijing Tiantan Hospital. Here, doctors will continue to study and improve this technology to help more people.

The government is also helping out! They made new guidelines to support the use of BCIs in hospitals. This means that in the future, more people who need help can get access to this awesome technology.

Even experts from other countries are impressed. Tom Oxley, the CEO of a U.S. BCI company, said that the Chinese mainland is moving very quickly in this field. “It looks to me that the field of BCI is moving very, very quickly in China,” he said.

Imagine a world where people can control computers, prosthetic limbs, or even robots just by thinking! 🚀 With these amazing advancements, that future might be closer than we think!
