Farewell to Japan: Four Beloved Giant Pandas Return to China

Hey there, panda fans! 🐼

Did you hear the big news? Four adorable giant pandas are leaving Japan and heading back to the Chinese mainland! Let’s find out more about these cuddly creatures and their journey.

Meet the Pandas

The pandas are from Adventure World, a zoo in Shirahama Town, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. They are:

  • Rauhin (24 years old): She’s the first panda ever born at Adventure World and is known as the “veteran mom.” She has given birth to 10 cubs!
  • Her daughters:
    • Yuihin (8 years old)
    • Saihin (6 years old)
    • Fuhin (4 years old)

Why Are They Going to China?

Giant pandas are native to China. Many pandas in zoos around the world are actually on loan from China. After spending time abroad, pandas often return to China to join breeding programs and help protect their species.

Saying Goodbye

People all over Japan are sad to see them go. Visitors came from far and wide to Adventure World to catch a last glimpse of these lovely pandas. But don’t worry, the pandas will be well taken care of in the Chinese mainland!

What’s Next for Pandas in Japan?

After these four pandas leave, there will only be two giant pandas left in Japan, both living at Ueno Zoo in Tokyo. They are scheduled to return to China by February 20, 2026.

Did You Know?

  • Giant pandas eat mostly bamboo—up to 40 pounds (18 kilograms) a day!
  • They’re excellent climbers and can even swim.
  • Giant pandas have a special bone called a “pseudo thumb” to help them grip bamboo.

Let’s wish Rauhin, Yuihin, Saihin, and Fuhin a safe journey! 🚢🌏
