Did you know that buildings can walk? ๐๏ธ๐ถ Well, in Shanghai, something amazing just happened!
A huge, super old building called the Huayanli Shikumen complex, which weighs as much as 7,500 tonnes (that’s like 1,000 elephants!), has just moved back to its original spot with the help of over 400 robots!
The Huayanli Shikumen complex is part of the Zhangyuan district in Shanghai, the Chinese mainland. This area is 140 years old and has lots of special buildings called ‘Shikumen’, which means ‘stone gate’. These buildings are unique to Shanghai and are a mix of Chinese and Western styles.
To protect the building while fixing up the area, the whole complex was moved to a safe place. Then, starting on May 19, 432 little robots were put under the building. These robots acted like tiny legs, helping the building ‘walk’ back home at about 10 meters per day!
By June 7, the building had finished its journey, thanks to the amazing robots. Isn’t it cool how technology can help save history? ๐ค๐๏ธ
Next time you see a robot toy, imagine it helping a giant building move! What other amazing things do you think robots can do?
