Gymnastics Star Zhang Boheng Shines Despite Injury! 🌟

Just recently, Zhang competed in the National Gymnastics Championships in Nanning, and guess what? He won the gold medal in the men’s all-around competition with an impressive score of 82.965 points! 🥇

But here’s the incredible part: Zhang injured his neck just one day before the competition! 😲 He could hardly bend his head during the event, but he didn’t give up. He showed true courage and determination, pushing through the pain to perform his routines.

Even though he stumbled on the pommel horse, he was the only gymnast to score over 80 points in the final. Zhang said, “Winning the gold makes me happy, but I think more work is needed for the Chinese men’s gymnasts.”

Another inspiring athlete, Shi Cong, won the silver medal with 79.765 points. Shi also faced challenges; he broke his rib and was diagnosed with pneumothorax (that’s when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall) less than three months before the tournament. Despite this, he competed and did his best! 💪

Meanwhile, in Japan, the NHK Cup was happening at the same time. Nearly 20 Japanese male gymnasts scored over 80 points under the new 2025-2028 Code of Points. Zhang believes that Chinese gymnasts need to improve their understanding of the new rules to compete better on the world stage.
