Guess what, swimming fans? Pan Zhanle, the world record holder for the men’s 100-meter freestyle, just won the gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle at China’s National Swimming Championships in Shenzhen! πββοΈβ¨
This 20-year-old superstar wasn’t the favorite to win, but he gave it his all and swam his fastest time ever: 3 minutes and 45.34 seconds! That’s super fast! π
Pan was racing against some tough competitors, including Fei Liwei and the famous Olympic gold medalist Sun Yang. It was an exciting race! Pan started strong, leading after the first 100 meters. Then, around the 250-meter mark, Fei Liwei pulled ahead. But Pan didn’t give up! In the last 50 meters, he surged forward and touched the wall first to grab the gold medal! π₯ Fei Liwei took silver, and Sun Yang earned bronze.
“I didn’t expect to win this race,” Pan said with a big smile. “This is a surprise for me because I haven’t been training for longer distances recently. This victory definitely boosts my confidence!” πͺ
Sun Yang, who is one of China’s most famous swimmers, said, “I’m really happy to be here. This event is top-level nationwide, and I’m glad I can still swim with the youngsters. I don’t care about winning or losing that much now. After 20 years in the pool, I swim for myself and my family.” π
But that’s not all! In the women’s 400-meter freestyle, Li Bingjie made history by breaking the Asian record! She swam the race in just 3 minutes and 59.99 seconds, becoming the first Asian woman to finish the 400-meter freestyle in under 4 minutes! π
At 23 years old, Li Bingjie said, “I’m so happy to break the 4-minute barrier. It’s a dream come true!” π₯°
What an amazing day for swimming! Maybe one day you’ll be racing in the pool just like Pan Zhanle and Li Bingjie! Keep dreaming and keep swimming! πββοΈπββοΈ
