On Sunday afternoon, two tourist boats sadly capsized on a river in Guizhou Province, which is in the southwest of China. The boats were carrying many people who were enjoying a day out.
When the boats overturned around 4:40 p.m., lots of people fell into the water. Rescue teams quickly rushed to help. So far, nine people have lost their lives, and one person is still missing. Seventy people have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked everyone involved to do their very best to find the missing person and to take care of those who were hurt. He emphasized how important it is to keep places like tourist attractions safe so that accidents like this don’t happen again.
President Xi also reminded local authorities to learn from these incidents and to make sure they are always thinking about safety. He wants everyone to work together to prevent accidents and protect people.
Premier Li Qiang also spoke out, urging for full rescue and medical efforts. He wants thorough checks to find any possible dangers in busy places, especially as people return home from holidays.
Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing went to the accident site to help with the rescue and relief work.
