Have you ever dreamed of going to space? 🌟 Yang Liwei did just that! He is known as China’s first astronaut, or taikonaut. In 2003, Yang made history by becoming the first Chinese person to travel into space aboard the spacecraft Shenzhou-5.
Before his incredible journey, Yang trained for years. He had to stay strong physically and mentally to prepare for space travel. On October 15, 2003, when he was 38 years old, Yang launched into space. He orbited the Earth 14 times in about 21 hours!
When Yang returned safely to Earth, it was a huge achievement for China. The country became the third in the world to independently send a person into space, after Russia and the United States.
Since his space mission, Yang Liwei has continued to help China’s space program. He mentors young astronauts and works on projects like building space stations. His story inspires many people as China explores even further into space!
