Annual Water Splashing Festival held in Xishuangbanna

Splash into Fun: Xishuangbanna’s Water Splashing Festival!

Have you ever been in a giant water fight with thousands of people? Sounds fun, right? 😄 Well, that’s exactly what happened in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna in China! On April 15, 2025, people gathered to celebrate the Water Splashing Festival! 💦🎉

This special festival marks the New Year for the Dai ethnic group, a community living in Yunnan Province. The Dai people have their own unique traditions and language, and this festival is one of their most exciting celebrations! 🥳

Before the big water splashing party began, there was a ceremony by the Lancang River. People collected “auspicious water” (that’s water believed to bring good luck!) and brought it to the city square. Then, the real fun started – everyone began splashing water on each other! Imagine getting soaked in water on a hot day while celebrating with friends and family! 🌞💧

But that’s not all! There were other cool activities too. People worshipped and bathed Buddha statues as a sign of respect and blessing. They also released Kongming lanterns into the sky. These are like little hot-air balloons made of paper that float up and carry wishes and dreams. How magical is that? ✨

The Water Splashing Festival is all about washing away bad luck and bringing in happiness for the New Year. It’s a time for joy, togetherness, and loads of watery fun! Would you like to join in someday? 😊
