The windstorm was so fierce that it set new records at nearly 500 weather stations! In some places like Beijing, Tianjin, and Henan, the wind speeds were as strong as a hurricane! That’s wind blowing at level 13 or even higher on the wind scale. Imagine how powerful that is!

The strong winds uprooted over 1,200 trees and broke more than 4,300 large branches in Beijing alone. To keep everyone safe, the city closed down 336 parks, including all 13 of the big municipal parks. So, if you were planning a picnic, it was definitely a day to stay indoors!

Travel Troubles ✈️

Because of the windstorm, more than 3,200 flights within China were canceled by midday. That’s the most flights canceled on a single day this year! Many people had to change their travel plans because it just wasn’t safe to fly in such strong winds.

The wind didn’t just stay in the north. It moved south, affecting areas along the Yangtze River. In places like Shanxi and Henan provinces, the winds were so strong that they tore rooftops and glass windows off buildings! 😮
