Tragic Fire in Chinese Nursing Home: 20 Residents Lost
A sad event happened in the Hebei Province of north China. Late on Tuesday night, a fire broke out in a nursing home where elderly people live and are cared for. The fire started around 9 p.m. in Longhua County, Chengde City.
At the time, 39 elderly residents were in the building. Firefighters worked hard to put out the flames, and by around 11 p.m., the fire was extinguished. Sadly, 20 people lost their lives in the fire.
The other 19 residents were taken to the hospital to be checked by doctors. The local authorities are investigating to find out why the fire started. The person responsible for the nursing home has been arrested by the police.
The Work Safety Committee of China’s State Council announced that it will oversee the investigation to understand how this happened and to prevent such tragedies in the future.
