Heron flock in Chengdu draws attention with unique feeding behavior

Grey Heron Parade in Chengdu: Nature’s Flowing Banquet

Hey there, young nature explorers! 🌿 Did you know that April 1st is International Bird Day? 🐦 This special day reminds us to protect our feathered friends all around the world.

Recently, something amazing happened in Chengdu City, located in the southwest of the Chinese mainland. A flock of grey herons has captured everyone’s attention with their unique way of catching food! 🐟

These tall, graceful birds can be seen standing perfectly still in the shallow waters of the Jinjiang River for a long time. They wait patiently, and when the time is right—BAM!—they strike lightning-fast to catch a fish. Locals have playfully named this the “flowing banquet” because it’s like the herons are lining up at an all-you-can-eat buffet! 🍽️

The Chengdu Birdwatching Society tells us that the herons stand still to cover more area when hunting. This helps them catch more fish. Pretty smart, right?

Experts say the reason we’re seeing more herons is because the Jinjiang River has become a healthier place. Thanks to efforts to clean up the river, the water is clearer, and there are more fish swimming around. 🐟🐠

This means not just herons, but also egrets and other birds are coming back to the river. It’s like nature is giving the city a big thumbs up! 👍

Isn’t it cool how taking care of our environment can make such a big difference? Maybe next time you’re by a river or a park, you’ll spot some amazing wildlife too!
