Hey kids! Guess what? China has just found a massive oilfield in the South China Sea! That’s like discovering a hidden treasure under the sea!
The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (that’s a big company that looks for oil and gas under the sea) announced that they found an oilfield with over 100 million tonnes of oil. That’s a lot of energy to help power cars, homes, and more!
This new oilfield is called Huizhou 19-6 and it’s special because it’s the first time China has found such a big oilfield in super deep layers under the sea floor. It’s about 170 kilometers away from Shenzhen, a big city in southern China.
When they tested the oilfield, they found they could get 413 barrels of oil and 68,000 cubic meters of natural gas every day! Imagine filling up 413 big barrels with oil daily—that’s amazing!
Finding oil deep under the sea isn’t easy. It’s like trying to find a tiny toy buried under layers of blankets, but way harder! The sea floor is under high pressure, it’s really hot, and the rocks are complicated. But the scientists and engineers didn’t give up!
Mr. Peng Guangrong, a geologist (that’s a scientist who studies the Earth), said that most new oil and gas discoveries around the world are coming from these deep layers. So exploring deeper is like opening new doors to find more resources!
With this discovery, China has found big oilfields in the South China Sea for two years in a row! This means more energy for everyone and shows that hard work and exploration pay off!
