Teen Weightlifting Star Yang Liuyue Wins Big! ποΈββοΈπ₯
Guess what? An 18-year-old weightlifter named Yang Liuyue just made an amazing achievement! She won two gold medals at the Chinese Women’s Weightlifting National Championships held in Fuzhou, in the Chinese mainland.
Yang competed in the 64-kilogram weight category, which means she lifts weights in the group for athletes who weigh up to 64 kilograms (about 141 pounds). ποΈββοΈ
The competition was super exciting! Yang and her competitor, Li Shuang, who is 20 years old and from Chongqing, had a head-to-head battle. They both started with really heavy weights in the “snatch” and “clean and jerk” events. These are two types of lifts in weightlifting competitions.
In the “snatch” event, athletes lift the barbell from the ground to over their head in one smooth motion. Yang lifted an incredible 110 kilograms (that’s like lifting a small horse!) and won the gold medal in this event. π₯
Not only did she win, but she also matched the domestic junior record for her category! That means she lifted as much as any other young person has ever lifted in her country!
In the “clean and jerk” event, which involves lifting the barbell first to the shoulders (the “clean”) and then overhead (the “jerk”), Yang managed to lift 130 kilograms! That’s heavier than a grand piano! πΉ
Although another athlete, Liu Meishi from Zhejiang, lifted 131 kilograms and won the clean and jerk event, Yang’s total weight lifted in both events was the highest. She lifted a combined total of 240 kilograms, earning her a second gold medal for the overall standings! π
Isn’t that inspiring? Yang Liuyue is only 18 and is already making her mark in weightlifting. Maybe one day we’ll see her compete in the Olympics! If you have a dream, work hard like Yang, and you might achieve amazing things too! πͺβ¨
