Hey there! Did you know that when countries trade goods (like toys, clothes, and electronics), they sometimes charge extra fees called tariffs? Recently, the United States decided to add tariffs on things it buys from China.
Mr. Zhang Jianmin, who is the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, said that doing this isn’t a good idea. He thinks using a problem called the fentanyl issue as a reason to add tariffs isn’t fair.
Fentanyl is a very strong medicine that can be dangerous if not used correctly. In 2019, China made strict rules to control it.
Mr. Zhang believes that adding tariffs will hurt people on both sides. For example, people on the U.S. West Coast buy and sell a lot of things with China. If it’s harder to trade, it might make things more expensive or people might lose jobs.
He also wants everyone to solve problems by talking respectfully and working together. He says blaming others won’t fix the problem.
So, he hopes the U.S. and China can be friends and find ways to solve these issues together! 🤝
