Hey there, future fencing fans! 🤺 Did you hear the exciting news? China’s women’s saber team just won the gold medal at the Fencing World Cup in Heraklion, Greece! 🎉 It’s their first big win at this tournament since 2011!
The team was made up of Fu Ying, who is 26 years old, and three amazing young athletes born in the 2000s: Rao Xueyi (20), Zhang Xinyi, and Wei Jiayi (21). They showed incredible skill and teamwork throughout the competition.
After skipping the first round, China defeated Italy 45-36. Then, they had close matches against Ukraine and South Korea, winning both games 45-40 to reach the final.
In the final match against France, it was super intense! 😱 Fu Ying started strong, but the teams were neck and neck. Going into the last bout, China was behind by one point. That’s when Rao Xueyi stepped up and scored four points in a row, helping her team win 45-42! What a comeback! 🏆
Rao said, “I’m very happy to win the championship. We faced tough opponents today, but we didn’t give up. Whether we were ahead or behind, we took every point seriously.” She had also won an individual gold earlier this season at the Budapest Junior World Cup!
The team’s success is a result of hard work and great coaching. Their coach, Cyril Verbrackel from France, helped them improve after some tough results at the Paris Olympics.
Congratulations to China’s women’s saber team! We can’t wait to see what they achieve next! 🌟
