Hey there! Did you know that 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded in China? 😮 According to the National Climate Center of the China Meteorological Administration, the average temperature reached 10.9 degrees Celsius! That’s higher than any year since they started keeping records in 1951.
All four seasons in 2024 were warmer than usual. In fact, spring, summer, and autumn had the highest temperatures ever recorded for those seasons. Imagine having extra hot days during your school break! ☀️🔥
On average, there were 6.6 more high-temperature days across the country than normal. This was the second-highest number since 1961. That’s a lot of extra hot days! 🥵
“Following the El Niño influence from the previous year and against the backdrop of climate warming, China’s annual average temperature has reached a new historic high in 2024,” said Xiao Chan, the deputy director of the National Climate Center.
But it’s not just about the heat. The weather was also a bit wild and unpredictable. Xiao Chan mentioned that 2024 had “complex weather patterns” and “frequent and intense extreme events”. That means there were more storms, heavy rains, and other unusual weather happenings. 🌧️⛈️
All that extra rain led to the fourth-highest average precipitation since 1951. While rain can be fun to splash in, too much can cause problems like floods. 💦
The National Climate Center releases this bulletin every year to let everyone know about the climate conditions and major weather events. It’s important for us to understand how our world’s climate is changing so we can take care of our planet! 🌍💚
