🌬️🌞 Did you know that China is bringing green energy all the way to Antarctica? Let’s find out how! ❄️
The Qinling Station, China’s fifth research station in Antarctica, is about to start using a brand-new clean energy system. This means they’re using energy from the wind and the sun to power their station! How cool is that?
The station can host up to 80 people in the summer and 30 in the winter. To keep everything running, they installed wind turbines and solar panels, which make up 60% of their total energy. They also have special batteries to store energy and even make hydrogen for extra power!
Sun Hongbin, the chief scientist for polar clean energy at the Polar Research Institute of China, said this is the first time such a large clean energy system is being used in Antarctica’s extreme environment. They’re testing everything carefully to make sure it works, even during the super cold and windy Antarctic nights!
This new system is expected to be ready by February. It will help the scientists live and work in a greener way, even when there’s no wind or sun for a little while. This is a big step forward for clean energy and polar research!
🎉 Isn’t it amazing how science and technology can help us protect our planet, even in the coldest places on Earth?
