Hey everyone! Have you heard about the big chill hitting the Chinese mainland? A powerful cold wave is sweeping across central and eastern China, bringing super strong winds and freezing temperatures! 🥶
What’s Going On?
From February 6 to 7, winds are getting stronger from north to south. The areas getting hit the hardest include Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Shanxi and Shandong provinces, and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area. On February 6, Inner Mongolia had the strongest winds, and by February 7, gusts will reach many southern regions!
How Cold Is It?
The temperatures are dropping a lot! In Inner Mongolia, they saw a drop of 4 to 10 degrees Celsius on February 6. Some places might even reach nearly minus 30 degrees Celsius! That’s colder than a polar bear’s toes! 🐻❄️❄️
The Wind Chill Effect
Have you ever felt colder when the wind is blowing? That’s called the wind chill effect. It means that when the wind blows faster, it makes your body lose heat quicker, so it feels colder than it actually is. For example, if it’s above 0°C, a stronger wind can make it feel 3 to 5 degrees colder. Below 0°C, it can feel 6 to 8 degrees colder! Brrr! 🌬️
What Are People Doing?
Farmers in Ordos City are working hard to protect their crops. They’re reinforcing greenhouses to keep their plants safe from the frost. Authorities are also giving out weather warnings and telling people to secure outdoor decorations and signs. It’s important to stay safe!
Stay Warm and Safe!
Meteorologists say that strong winds, not snowfall, are the main thing with this cold wave. So if you’re in these areas, make sure to bundle up, wear a hat and gloves, and maybe drink some hot chocolate! ☕ Stay warm out there!
