First up, No. 1 seed Wang Chuqin from China faced off against Singapore’s own Koen Pang. Even though Koen is ranked 142nd in the world, he gave Wang a tough time! ๐ฎ The scores were close: 11-7, 11-7, 11-8. Wang said after the match that Koen was a strong opponent, especially in a best-of-five game. Great effort, Koen! ๐
Next Challenge for Wang
Next, Wang will play against Anton Kallberg from Sweden. Anton is the 15th seed and actually beat Wang last year at the World Table Tennis Champions in Frankfurt! ๐ฒ Wang is ready for a challenging game. Let’s cheer him on! ๐
Liang Jingkun’s Amazing Comeback
Another exciting match was No. 4 seed Liang Jingkun from China. He had an amazing comeback against Germany’s Dimitrij Ovtcharov! After losing the first two games 6-11 and 5-11, Liang fought back to win the next three games 11-6, 11-9, and a thrilling 15-13! What a comeback! ๐ He will now face another German player, Ricardo Walther.
Success on the Women’s Side
Over on the women’s side, fourth-seeded Chen Xingtong from China had a fantastic win against Shao Jieni of Portugal, winning 11-5, 11-8, 11-6. ๐ Chen’s next match will be against Bernadette Szocs, the 13th seed from Romania.
Second-seeded Wang Manyu from China also advanced by beating Chien Tung-Chuan of Chinese Taipei 14-12, 8-11, 11-6, 11-3. Her next opponent is her women’s doubles partner, Kuai Man! That should be an interesting match! ๐
