Guess who’s new in town? πΌπΌ Two adorable giant pandas, Bao Li and Qing Bao, just made their first public appearance at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C. on Friday! π
Visitors were super excited to see the panda pals exploring their new home. Bao Li is a playful boy panda, and Qing Bao is a curious girl panda. They’re both just three years old, which is like being a kid in panda years! πΎ
At the special ceremony, China’s Ambassador to the United States, Xie Feng, said, “Embracing pandas is embracing peace and friendship.” Isn’t that sweet? π He believes that our shared love for pandas shows how China and the United States have a lot in common! π
Brandie Smith, the director of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, thanked China for sending Bao Li and Qing Bao. She said that working together has helped giant pandas thrive. Isn’t it cool how pandas can bring people together? π€
Bao Li and Qing Bao traveled all the way from their hometown in Sichuan Province, in southwest China. They arrived in Washington, D.C. on October 15, 2024, as part of a special 10-year program to protect pandas. Talk about a big adventure! βοΈ
Now, you can visit Bao Li and Qing Bao at the zoo and watch them munch on bamboo, climb trees, and maybe even tumble around! If you’re in Washington, D.C., don’t miss the chance to say hi to these furry friends! π₯°
