In 2023, China planted a whopping 4.45 million hectares of new trees! That’s like covering an area bigger than some countries with forests. Imagine how many birds and animals can live there now! 🐦🐿️
But that’s not all. They also improved 3.22 million hectares of grasslands. This means more places for animals to graze and for nature to thrive. 🐄🌾
China worked hard to turn deserts back into green land. They fixed up 2.45 million hectares of desert areas. Turning sandy deserts into places where plants can grow helps stop sandstorms and protects the environment. 🏜️➡️🌿
All these efforts have helped China’s forests cover over 25% of the country now! That’s a big jump in making the Earth greener. 🌎💚
One of the coolest projects is the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program. It’s the world’s biggest tree-planting program to stop deserts from spreading in northwest, north, and northeast China. They spent 32 billion yuan (about $4.46 billion) on 287 projects and 58 nursery bases. That’s a lot of trees! 🎋🌳
Cities are getting greener too! Now, over 43% of city areas have green spaces, like parks and gardens. On average, each person has about 15.65 square meters of park space to enjoy. That’s like having a small park all to yourself! 🌻🏞️
More than 200 cities have been named “National Forest Cities” because they have so many trees and green spaces. Even villages have lots of greenery, with about 32% covered by plants. 🏡🌿
All these trees and plants help the planet by absorbing carbon dioxide (a gas that can warm up the Earth). China’s trees absorb over 1.2 billion tonnes of carbon every year! 🌬️➡️🌳
