Zhang Shuai and Rohan Bopanna’s Exciting Match at the Australian Open 🎾
Hey tennis fans! Have you ever played a super close game where every point counts? That’s exactly what happened with China’s Zhang Shuai and India’s Rohan Bopanna at the Australian Open!
Zhang and Bopanna were playing in the mixed doubles quarterfinals (that’s the top 8 teams!) against Australia’s Olivia Gadecki and John Peers. The match was super intense! 😲
They played three sets. Zhang and Bopanna won the first set 6-2. Yay! 🎉 But Gadecki and Peers came back to win the second set 6-4. Uh-oh! 😬
The third set was a super tiebreaker. That means instead of playing a full set, they play a special game to 10 points (but you have to win by 2). It was neck and neck! At one point, Zhang and Bopanna were leading 9-8 and had a match point! That means if they won the next point, they’d win the match! 😮
But Peers served a tricky shot that Zhang and Bopanna couldn’t return. The Australian team then took the lead and finally won the super tiebreak 11-9. So close! 😱
After the match, John Peers said, “I knew if we hung around long enough, hopefully it would turn our way. Whether we like it or not, you have to win the last point, not the first point.”
Even though Zhang Shuai and Rohan Bopanna didn’t win, they played an amazing match and made it really exciting for everyone watching! 👏
Next up, Gadecki and Peers will play against New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe and Michael Venus in the semifinals. Good luck to them! 🍀
Wasn’t that an exciting match? Have you ever been in a game that was so close? Remember, in sports, it’s all about doing your best and having fun! 😊
