Memorial Service Held for Earthquake Victims in Xizang
On Monday morning, people gathered in Chamco Township, Dingri County, in China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, to remember those who lost their lives in a recent earthquake. The service started at 9:30 a.m. Hundreds of rescue workers, government officials, and local residents came together to honor the victims.
Everyone took off their hats and stood silently for three minutes. It was a solemn moment to show respect and support. 🙏
On January 7, a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Dingri County. Dingri is known as the home to the northern base camp of Mount Qomolangma, the world’s highest peak. The earthquake sadly took the lives of 126 people.
The powerful quake affected around 61,500 people and damaged or destroyed more than 27,000 houses. Many families are now rebuilding their homes and communities.
This memorial service was a way for the community to come together, remember those who were lost, and support one another during this difficult time.
