A new profession: Rise of care management specialists for elderly

Meet China’s New Care Specialists: Helping Grandparents Live Happily at Home ❤️🏠

Have you ever wondered who helps grandmas and grandpas when they need extra care? In China, there’s a new kind of helper called care management specialists, and they’re making a big difference! 🧓👵

Imagine someone who visits your grandparents, checks their health, and makes sure they’re safe and happy at home. That’s exactly what 46-year-old Lu Yajing does every day in a busy neighborhood in Beijing. She rides her electric scooter 🛵 to visit elderly people who need a little extra help.

One of the people she helps is a 78-year-old man who can’t see well and has kidney problems. Lu checks his blood pressure, blood sugar, and oxygen levels to make sure he’s healthy. She also looks around his home to make sure there are no dangers, like slippery floors. She even arranges foot care appointments to keep him feeling his best! 👣

Lu used to be a doctor in a rural area for 19 years. In 2019, she decided to use her skills to help seniors in their own homes. She got special training to become a care management specialist. Now, she helps many elderly people, some over 90 years old, and even those with serious conditions like dementia.

One night, Lu got an urgent call. An elderly man she cares for had a fever and had fallen down. She quickly went to his home, checked his vital signs, and took him to the hospital. She stayed with him all night to make sure he was okay. His wife said, “Our children aren’t nearby, and we truly depend on her. She’s been helping us for three years now. When we have an emergency, she’s always the first person we think of.” ❤️

China has nearly 297 million people aged 60 or older. That’s a lot of grandparents! 🧓👴 As more people get older, the need for care management specialists like Lu is growing. They help seniors stay in their own homes instead of moving to care facilities.

Lu’s team is excited about the future. They hope more young people will join them. Wang Xiaohui, who is 24 years old, is the youngest on the team. She says, “We serve around 40 to 50 elderly people each. We’re committed to providing top-notch care, but if there were more specialists, each of us could devote more time to each individual.” 🌟

These care specialists are like heroes, helping seniors live happily and safely at home. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll meet someone like Lu in your own neighborhood! 🌈
