China’s Liu Mengting Wins First Freeski Big Air World Cup Title! 🎿🥇
Hey there, winter sports fans! ❄️ Have you ever dreamed of flying through the air on skis? Well, Liu Mengting from China just made that dream come true in a big way! She won her very first freeski big air World Cup title at Woerthersee Stadium in Klagenfurt, Austria. How cool is that? 🌟
So, what happened?
Liu pulled off two amazing tricks called the “Double 1080” in her first two runs. That’s when she spins around three times in the air—twice! Imagine that! She scored a total of 170.60 points, just 0.20 points ahead of Italy’s Flora Tabanelli. It was super close! 😮
Making History
Liu is now the second Chinese athlete ever to win a big air World Cup event. The first was Gu Ailing (you might know her as Eileen Gu), who won back in the 2020-21 season. Liu said, “I’m so happy. My first World Cup win, it’s so cool.” We couldn’t agree more! 🎉
A Tight Competition
Flora Tabanelli from Italy was also amazing. She had the highest-scoring run of the night with 91.00 points for her “Left Double Cork 1260 Safety” trick. That’s a mouthful, but basically, she spun around three and a half times with some awesome grabs! Even though she didn’t win, she’s been on the podium three times this season. Way to go, Flora! 👏
Coming in third was Muriel Mohr from Germany with 166.20 points. The competition was fierce but friendly, and everyone showed great sportsmanship. 🏅
Over in the Men’s Event…
Let’s not forget about the guys! Luca Harrington from New Zealand dominated the men’s event. He nailed a “Switch Right Triple 1620 Esco Double Grab” (that’s 4.5 spins!) and won with 182.60 points. Congratulations, Luca! 🏆
Why is this so exciting?
Freeski big air is all about daring tricks and sky-high jumps. These athletes train super hard to perfect their moves, and it’s thrilling to watch. Who knows, maybe someday you’ll be inspired to try skiing or snowboarding too! 🏂
What’s Next?
We can’t wait to see what Liu Mengting and other athletes do next. The world of winter sports is full of excitement, and there’s always another competition around the corner. Stay tuned! 📺
