Japan’s Leader Stands Up to U.S. Tariff Threats
📢 Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has said he won’t “easily compromise” with the United States over new taxes on Japanese goods.
🇯🇵🤝🇺🇸 The U.S. President Donald Trump wants to put high tariffs—special taxes—on products from Japan unless Japan agrees to buy more American cars and rice.
⏰ A deadline is coming up soon! If no deal is made by July 9th, these tariffs could go up to as much as 35%!
🤔 But Prime Minister Ishiba thinks that’s not fair. He says Japan should be treated differently because it invests a lot of money in the U.S. and helps create many American jobs.
“We are allies, but we have to say what we have to say,” Ishiba said. “We are the world’s largest investor nation and the largest job creator in the U.S. We are different.”
📞 Officials from both countries are talking to try to find a solution. Everyone is watching to see what will happen next!
