Hey there, have you heard about the big meeting happening in Xiamen City, China? π¨π³π΄π
From Wednesday to Thursday, leaders from 11 Pacific Island countries are coming together to chat with China, the world’s second-largest economy! ππ¬
Why is this important? Well, China and these island countries have been good friends for a long time. Their trade (that’s buying and selling things) has grown from $153 million in 1992 to a whopping $6.36 billion in 2024! ππ° That’s like having 30 times more than before!
They trade things like wood from forests and seafood. ππ³ And guess what? The Pacific Islands sell more to China than they buy, so they get extra money! π΅π
China has also been helping these countries build important things like roads and airports. For example, they built the Independence Boulevard in Papua New Guinea and the Malekula Road in Vanuatu. ππ£οΈ This helps people travel and connect better!
In Fiji, China has helped build a new airport terminal and improve roads. π«π§ This makes it easier for people to visit and for goods to move around.
The Prime Minister of Samoa, Afioga Fiame Naomi Mata’afa, said it’s a great time to think about how Samoa and China can work together even more. π€ She wants to see more projects that create jobs and help businesses grow. π‘πΌ
All of this shows how countries can be good friends and help each other out! π What do you think about these partnerships? Pretty cool, right? π
