Over the past five years, China has seen a huge increase in the number of businesses and jobs. There are now over 33 million companies working in what we call the secondary and tertiary industries. But what does that mean?
Secondary industries are all about making things, like factories producing toys, clothes, or electronics. Tertiary industries are services, like teachers, doctors, or people who work in stores.
All these companies employ nearly 429 million people! That’s a lot of jobs, and it means more people are working than ever before.
The Digital Economy is Booming 💻
For the first time, China’s census included the digital economy. This is all the stuff that happens online or with technology, like internet companies, software makers, and tech startups.
There are almost 3 million digital companies now, employing over 36 million people. Together, they made about 48 trillion yuan (that’s around $6.74 trillion) in revenue! That’s a lot of zeros!
