Hey there, nature lovers! Guess what? Amazing footage of wild deer battling it out has been captured by hidden cameras in a nature reserve in Inner Mongolia, China! 🌿

Meet the Manchurian Wapiti 🦌

The stars of this exciting footage are the Manchurian wapiti, a type of deer native to East Asia. These majestic creatures are protected in China to help keep their populations safe and growing.

What Happened?

Special infrared cameras, which can see in the dark by detecting heat, caught male deer making loud calls called bellowing. They were also seen fighting other males for territory and to impress the females! πŸ†

“The bellowing of deer peaks in September and October, mainly because the males are trying to attract females,” said Hong Meijing, who works at the Saihan Wula National Nature Reserve.

How Did They Capture This?

Scientists have set up 59 infrared cameras all around the reserve to watch and learn more about these deer. They also use GPS collars (kind of like special necklaces) and DNA analysis (studying their genes) to track where the deer go and how they live. This helps them figure out the best ways to protect them. πŸ›°οΈπŸ”¬

Great News for the Deer! πŸŽ‰

Thanks to these efforts, the number of Manchurian wapiti in seven reserves has grown to about 12,000 deer! That’s a big herd!

Isn’t it amazing what technology can do to help us learn about and protect wildlife? Maybe someday you’ll get the chance to see these incredible animals yourself!
