Hey everyone! Have you heard about the big event happening in China this week? It’s called the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities, and it’s super exciting!
From November 22 to 30, around 10,000 athletes from all of China’s 56 ethnic groups are gathering in Sanya, a beautiful city on a tropical island in Hainan Province. They’ll be competing in 139 events under 17 different sports, plus three special demonstration sports. That’s a lot of action!
These games have been happening since 1953, making them one of China’s oldest national sports events. But what’s really cool is that each ethnic group gets to showcase their own unique traditions and cultures.
At the opening ceremony, which will be about two hours long, there’s a special treat! Each ethnic minority delegation will put on their own 30-second performance when they enter the stadium. Can you imagine how colorful and lively that’s going to be? 🎊
Sha Xiaolan, the chief director of the opening ceremony, said they’re using creative ideas and digital technology to bring Hainan’s beaches, islands, and coconut forests to life. There will be amazing special effects featuring the numbers 56 (for the 56 ethnic groups) and 12 (since it’s the 12th games).
“It’s a signature of ethnic minorities,” Sha said. “Everybody has been trying their best to make it a great highlight.”
So if you’re interested in different cultures, sports, or just love a good show, the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities is definitely something to check out!
