Spinning Tops Make a Comeback at China’s Ethnic Games!

Have you ever played with a spinning top? 😊 In China, there’s a traditional game called da tuoluo, or top-spinning, and it’s making a big comeback at the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities in Sanya, south China’s Hainan Province!

Da tuoluo dates back thousands of years and has been a favorite pastime for kids and adults alike. It’s especially popular in southern China, in places like Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi, and Fujian provinces.

So, how do you play? 🧐 The game is played on a large field, about the size of a basketball court (15×20 meters). There are two teams: defenders and attackers. Defenders keep their tops spinning within a small circle (0.75 meters radius), while attackers try to hit them with their own tops from outside a line. It’s all about skill and precision!

In 1995, da tuoluo became an official sport at China’s national ethnic games. Since then, it’s been connecting people with China’s rich cultural heritage and bringing joy to everyone who plays or watches.

Isn’t it cool how an ancient game can still be fun today? Maybe next time you’re looking for a new game to try with your friends, you might give top-spinning a spin! 🌀😉
