The clever researchers from the Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering have created a special kind of plastic called a bio-based nanocomposite. That’s a big word, so let’s break it down.
Bio-based means it’s made from natural materials, not from oil like regular plastics. A nanocomposite is a material made by combining super tiny particles to make something even stronger.
They used ultra-thin sheets called 2D nanosheets to wrap around tiny fibers known as carbon nanotube fibers. This makes the new material very strong and super stable.
What’s really cool is that this new plastic is tough, can handle strong sunlight without breaking down, doesn’t dissolve easily in liquids, and blocks gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide really well.
